Autumn's Smile

long shadows
golden light
red rushing leaves
Autumn
...
what is it about this season that makes one sigh
do we feel a bit of relief from the summers' crazy days filled with all our projects
running here  ~   running there
although these days are filled with much work
harvesting the last in the garden, canning, buttoning up
it is a sense of "well done"

Fall is the time for lingering evening dinners
stews and soups
baking bread
evening fires
long walks though the colorful woods

tis a time for reflection

  loveliest smile

winter is an etching

spring a watercolor

summer an oil painting

& autumn a mosaic of them all

how right it is to love flowers
and the greenery of pines and ivy and hawthorn hedges
they have been with us from the very beginning

delicious fall

Yummy Autumn

as I sit at my little sewing machine
looking out the window

the leaves are rustling in the breeze
the rain is dripping from the eaves

colors are popping out all over

summer flowers have faded
leaving a few stragglers

there is a bit of somberness about autumn...

crazy days of summer have past..

                   changing seasons..

                    days are shortening..

                      nights are darker..

a chill hoovers in the air

wherever I wander
wherever I rove
the hills of the Highlands for ever I love

>>.. Robert Burns

I cannot endure to waste anything

as precious as autumn sunshine
by staying in the house
so I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air

♦.. Nathaniel Hawthorne

I feel as if I had opened a book
and found roses of yesterday
sweet and fragrant
between its leaves

>>.. L.M. Montgomery

I'm thinking a spot of tea
sounds wonderful about now

~ enjoy!

perfectly fall day

the weather has been absolutely glorious!

so off we went

Pinnacle Peak Trail . . . Rainier National Park

Tatoosh Mountain Range

Autumn is just starting to show her colors...

the leaves are all falling
and they're falling like
they're falling in love with the ground
Andrea Gibson

I would rather sit on a pumpkin
and have it all to myself
than be crowded on a velvet cushion
Henry David Thoreau

If you are faced with a mountain
you have several options

you can climb it & cross to the other side
you can go around it
you can did under it
you can fly over it
you can blow it up
you can ignore it & pretend it's not there
you can turn around & go back the way you cam

or you can stay on the mountain & make it your home
Vera Nazarian

met these guys along the way
they were going to make the most of the day
by skiing on a wee bit of patch of glacier snow

        the mountains were his masters
              they were rimmed in life
they were the cup of reality
                         beyond growth
                beyond struggle and death
         they were his absolute unity
in the midst of eternal change
Thomas Wolfe
