it's here ..........

September 22, 2013 at 4:44 p.m. EDT

that was it ... that was the change
there is no denying it

it is officially fall

we are definitely tasting it here
fog in the morning
sweaters are unpacked and ready to wear
the trees are tipped in red
not full blown
thank goodness we work into this gradually
I'm not ready to give up quite yet

to welcome her in
the kids and I went out to

a lovely drive to the coast about 40 miles west of us

someone has already gotten out his sweater

black berries are past their peak
turning into raisins....

Autumn days come quickly
like the running of a hound on the moor.
Irish proverb

there is a harmony in autumn
and a luster in its sky
which through the summer is not heard or seen
as if it could not be
as if it had not been!
Percy Bysshe Shelley

By all these lovely tokens September days are here
with summer's best of weather
and autumn's best of cheer.

Helen Hunt Jackson

William Allingham

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you
and the storms their energy
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
~John Muir

Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile.
William Cullen Bryant

Sunday Rambles

studio waterstone
♦♦♦♦♦

The best way to deal with gray overcast skies is to get out there in it!!
The hardest part is getting out your own door.
Leaving your warm cozy home, button up your coat, pull on your hat
& tie on your scarf.
Step outside .. the brisk air hits your face.
Breathe in the chill.
Once you are out there ~ moving around ~ your blood warms up..
and it is gorgeous out there!!!

I only went out for a walk
and finally concluded to stay out till sundown
for going out
I found
was really going in
♦♦ John Muir

adopt the pace of nature
her secret is patience
♦♦ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature
if we unconsciously yield to it
will direct us aright

trekking

Mount Rainier National Park

in the native language Rainier is Tahoma
"mother of many waters"
how very true

elevation 14,411
considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes
and right out our back door  ... hummmm....

the trees are God's great alphabet
with them he writes in shining green
across the world His thoughts are serene
Leonora Speyer

between every two pines is a doorway to a new world
John Muir

you feel so small in the forest of giant ancients
it makes you giggly
it's like being a kid again

Silver Falls

the mighty roar was deafening
what splendid power!

I love the little world

a little hot chocolate pick-me-up?

the human spirit needs places where
nature has not been rearranged by the human hand of man

Earth laughs in flowers
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wild Delphinium and Indian Paintbrush

the natives would use the beautiful purple/blue
delphiniums as dye for their baskets

flowers seem intended for the solace
of ordinary humanity
John Ruskin

climb the mountains and get their good tidings
nature's peace will flow into you
as sunshine flows into trees
the winds will blow their own freshness into you
and the storms their energy
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves
John Muir

enjoy ....
