Nisqually

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge

We are so excited ..
we are only 5.5 miles away from one of our favorite
spots for "natures activities" as my little Anna used to say.

The refuge preserves this beautiful estuary from
commercial development.  It is where the Nisqually River
meets the salt waters of the Puget Sound.

The riparian forested wetlands are unique
ecosystems that provide habitat for
many species of wildlife such as
migratory song birds, juvenile salmon,
eagles, wild geese, shore birds, mink, weasel,
deer, otters, beavers, bats, porcupines,
herons ... to name just a few!!!

At the Refuge the Riparian Forest
Overlook offers unique views of tidal
forested wetland plant communities
and the sloughs filling and draining
as tides and rivers’ flow change.

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
